Dumb Computer Repair Terms
(Revised Professional Version)
You agree to allow Dumb Computer Repair (“Dumbcomputer”) to diagnose, service, repair, or upgrade your computer. Dumbcomputer will provide honest, reasonable, and professional service. While we always aim for high-quality results, specific outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
Computer service/repair is provided as a service. In some situations, your computer may be unable to be repaired and may require rebuilding or upgrading. Examples include:
Hardware too old or obsolete
Replacement parts unavailable (memory, motherboard, etc.)
The length of time required to diagnose, service, or repair your computer cannot be guaranteed or predicted.
During service, there is potential for data loss. You agree that you have made proper backups of your data, and you understand that Dumbcomputer is not responsible for:
Lost files
Lost programs
Lost pictures/music/documents
Recovery or replacement of lost data
(See section 4.4)
You authorize Dumbcomputer to install antivirus tools or other necessary software to complete the service. Temporary software will be removed unless previously purchased.
All remote repair services are subject to the terms of this agreement.
After off-site repair is complete, you must pick up your computer within 14 days. After 14 days, a storage fee of $5.00 per week will be added due to limited space.
The standard rate is $49.99 per hour for hourly-based services (example: wired network setup). Minimum charge is 1 hour.
There is a minimum charge of $49.99 for any service performed or house call made.
Some services cannot be completed on site and must be taken to Dumbcomputer’s home office.
A cost estimate will be provided before work begins. Estimates are not guaranteed.
If additional work is required beyond the estimate, Dumbcomputer will attempt to contact you for approval.
Work will stop until contact is made. Once reached, your decision to continue or stop will be honored.
All services and repairs are subject to Massachusetts State Sales Tax.
All remote repair services must be paid before work begins. If we cannot complete the service or you are unhappy for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
Full payment is due immediately upon completion. No exceptions.
Parts, hardware, and software that must be special ordered require payment in advance.
Payments accepted:
Cash
Check
Credit card (may include a $2.00 processing fee)
Returned checks are subject to a $30.00 NSF fee.
Issuing a bad check is a crime. Dumbcomputer will pursue further action if an invoice goes unpaid.
Service is provided to repair, upgrade, or fix your device as requested.
Your system will never be intentionally harmed.
Dumbcomputer is not responsible for damage caused by existing system issues such as:
Viruses
Corruption
Failing hardware
Misconfigured software
You are fully responsible for backing up your own data. Dumbcomputer is not liable for lost data, software, programs, pictures, music, or documents. (See section 1.4)
If you request additional repairs not included in the original agreement, this may extend completion time. Dumbcomputer is not responsible for delays caused by added requests.
Dumbcomputer will not hold your computer longer than 60 days.
If not picked up within 60 days, it will be considered abandoned and may be donated or recycled. (See 1.7)
Customer satisfaction is a priority.
All service will be handled professionally and reasonably, based on the nature of the problem.
Free support for unresolved issues on the invoice is available for 7 days after service. After 7 days, additional support may be billed.
Warranty applies only to issues directly related to the service performed. Unrelated problems will be billed.
All services and repairs are guaranteed for 7 days from the invoice date.
If Dumbcomputer incorrectly diagnosed the issue, we will correct the labor at no charge.
Only replacement parts (if required) will be billed.
Free estimates are available via phone or email.
In-home/on-site estimates cost $50.00.
This fee is waived if you choose to proceed with the repair at that time.
For virus removal only, a $25.00 deposit is required to begin work. If Dumbcomputer cannot repair your computer, you will receive a full refund.
If you decline service during a house call, you must pay the $49.99 service call fee.
This fee will not be waived for future services.
Dumb Computer Repair is committed to providing safe, professional computer help for families, including customers under the age of 18 (“minors”). This policy explains how we handle service requests involving minors and how we protect both the child and the parent or legal guardian.
This policy applies to any customer under the age of 18.
It applies to all services, including:
Virus and malware removal
Tune-ups and performance improvement
Wi-Fi and internet issues
Email and login problems
Printer and basic hardware issues
General tech support and training
We do not provide services directly to a minor without parent/guardian approval.
A parent or legal guardian must:
Request the service or give permission for the minor to request it
Approve any remote-access session before it begins
Agree to the estimated cost before work starts
Approval may be given by:
Text message
Phone call
Email
In person
We may verify identity or ask follow-up questions to confirm that the person giving approval is the minor’s parent or legal guardian.
For the protection of the minor and the family:
A parent or legal guardian must be present during any remote-access session involving a minor’s computer.
The parent/guardian should:
Be in the room or nearby while we are connected
Be available to answer questions about passwords, accounts, or billing
End the session at any time if they feel uncomfortable
If a parent or guardian cannot be present, we will reschedule the session.
We can assist with:
Computers and laptops owned by the minor or the parent/guardian
Shared family computers
School-issued devices only if allowed by school policy
We may decline service on a school device if repairs would violate the school’s rules or security policies.
We take privacy seriously, especially for minors.
We do not intentionally access personal photos, messages, social media, or private documents, unless the parent/guardian specifically asks us to for troubleshooting purposes.
If we see sensitive or inappropriate content while repairing a system, we focus only on the technical problem and do not copy, share, or discuss that content.
We may recommend that the parent/guardian review the minor’s online safety and privacy settings.
When working with minors, we may:
Explain how to recognize online scams, fake pop-ups, and tech-support fraud
Show the minor and parent how to safely:
Install updates
Use antivirus software
Avoid suspicious links and downloads
We encourage parents to stay involved with how their child uses the computer and the internet.
Our primary contact for any minor’s service will always be the parent or legal guardian.
We will:
Explain the problem in simple language
Review any costs before work is completed
Provide a summary of what was done on the computer
The minor is welcome to be part of the conversation, but the parent/guardian is the final decision-maker.
The parent or legal guardian is responsible for all charges related to services for a minor.
We may ask for written or text confirmation before performing work that goes beyond the original request (for example, additional repairs or software purchases).
Dumb Computer Repair may refuse or end a session if:
A minor tries to hide the service from a parent or guardian
We believe the device is stolen or not authorized for repair
The parent/guardian does not give clear approval
Continued service would violate this policy or our general terms
We may update this Minor Service Policy from time to time to keep it current with our procedures and safety standards. The most recent version will always apply.
